Call for Panels
This call focuses on debates organized by academic groups, research projects, think-tanks, civil society organizations, public authorities, intergovernmental organizations, corporations, and other research organizations.
CPDP LatAm 2025 will be hosted by the Center for Technology and Society of FGV Direito Rio, in Rio de Janeiro, on 16 and 17 July 2025. Considering the Brazilian presidency of the G20 in 2025, CPDP LatAm will be dedicated to the central theme “Data governance in the global majority”.
The event will serve as a platform to foster the discussion and elaboration of solutions regarding the issues raised about legislative productions, business and government practices, new conceptualizations, recent events and much more. CPDP LatAm will have a track in its program dedicated to the Latin American MyData meeting, in which innovative approaches and conceptions of data protection will be explored.
It is important to note that the institutions, organizations or research projects that are chosen in the result of the call for panels will be considered as partners of CPDP LatAm 2025. This means that the partner will be available to fund all costs related to the participation of panel speakers in the amount of R$ 699 (USD 120) per participant.
Depending on its lucrative or non-profit nature, the partner can receive a number of benefits such as: brand recognition on the website, insertion of material in the conference package and the complete registration of panellists at the conference. Requests for support from non-profit organizations that cannot afford the event fee must be marked in the appropriate space on the form, with additional information provided in the “Additional information” field.
To request travel and accommodation support, please complete this form by May 15, 2025. CPDP LatAm’s capacity to provide this type of support is limited, so we encourage you to submit your request as soon as possible.
Applications will be evaluated with priority given to individuals and organizations based in the Global South, with a maximum of one grant per organization.
Speakers whose session proposals have already been accepted and who need funding to attend CPDP LatAm 2025 should contact us by.
We welcome proposals submitted by experts from all areas and disciplines that are related to the theme of the conference, covering the most diverse levels of research on Data Protection, Cooperation and Innovation in Latin America. We are preferably looking for panels that address the following topics:
We value panels that are multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary, coming from as many locations as possible and with equal participation between men, women and non-binary people. We encourage the most diverse types of sessions, including formats such as debates, round tables, workshops and other unconventional formats of academic approach. For more information on the rules for composing and submitting a panel, see the Rules for Submission and Composition of Panels.
Panel projects must be submitted using the following form.
Make sure you can afford the financial conditions for the panel submission (fee of R$699 (USD 120) per participant) or explicitly ask for support in your submission, in addition to checking that the speakers and moderators can cover travel and accommodation expenses.
Each panel may have a maximum of four speakers and one moderator.
Participants cannot accumulate speaker and moderator functions on the same panel, and must perform only one of the functions.
Each participant can be a maximum of two session speakers and moderators of another session, excluding plenary sessions.
The same person cannot participate as a speaker in more than two panels at CPDP LatAm, excluding plenary sessions
Each panel will have a total duration of 75 minutes and a minimum of 25 minutes of each session must be reserved for questions and answers.
If you would like to propose an alternative format for the panel, please get in touch.
The organizing institution cannot have more than two participants on the panel.
Each panel should be balanced in terms of gender and geographic origin. The geographical balance must be such that there are no more than 2 people from the same country and at least 3 countries represented on a panel. Balancing gender identities should include consideration for fluid identities and non-binary people. The panel should also be diverse in the disciplinary and sectoral scope, not containing only lawyers or academics or company representatives.
If you have a special reason to propose a panel that does not meet these terms, please contact us and we will consider your request.
If you are interested in proposing a CPDP LatAm “under the hood” talk to explore a specific issue with a 20-minute presentation, followed by a 25-minute chat with participants, please indicate this in the form.
The panels must be consolidated by May 20, 2025. If a panel still has many pending issues by the established deadline, the CPDP LatAm Organization reserves the right to intervene and take control to ensure the viability of the panel.
It is the responsibility of the panel organizers to make sure that invited speakers are available to participate in the panel, including checking that they are not simultaneously allocated to more than one CPDP LatAm panel.
If these rules are not followed, the Organization reserves the right to intervene and solve any problems.
